Wispr Flow vs Willow: which one to pick for dictating on your computer

In short
Wispr Flow and Willow both dictate in any app on Mac, Windows and iPhone, in more than 100 languages, and Pro costs the same on both: USD 15 a month or USD 144 a year. Pick Wispr Flow if you use Android, if you want meeting notes (on Mac and Windows) or if your company asks for ISO 27001. Pick Willow if you want to dictate for free without counting words (with a simpler model), an offline mode with Pro, or dictations that stay off its servers without changing a single setting. If you also work in Spanish, there's a short note on Loro at the end.
What they have in common
Both are voice dictation apps: hold a key (fn on a Mac), talk, let go, and clean text shows up in whatever app you have open. Both run on Mac, Windows and iPhone, dictate in more than 100 languages, adjust the style to each app, and have a dictionary that learns your names and work terms, plus voice shortcuts for text you repeat.
Both process your voice in the cloud, both have SOC 2 Type II certification, and both sign a HIPAA contract (BAA) if you dictate patient data. And Pro costs exactly the same.

Where Wispr Flow wins
- Android. Wispr Flow has an Android app. Willow doesn't yet: its website lists it as "coming soon."
- Meeting notes. Wispr Notetaker records your meetings on Mac and Windows without adding a bot, labels who said what and answers questions about them. It's on the free plan with a weekly limit. Willow's plans don't include meeting notes.
- Teams at the Pro price. Pro works for teams with no seat minimum, with a shared dictionary, shared snippets and centralized billing. On Willow, team features come with the Business plan, which costs more than Pro.
- ISO 27001. Both have SOC 2 Type II; Wispr Flow adds ISO 27001 certification, which Willow doesn't list among its own.
- A bigger student discount. 50% off for students and educators with a school email, versus 30% on Willow.
Where Willow wins
- Free dictation without counting words. The free plan has no word limit, though it uses a simpler model (Frontier Mini) and stops each dictation at 5 minutes. Pro moves you to its best model (Frontier Pro) and dictations of up to 8 minutes. On Wispr Flow, the free plan is 2,000 words a week on desktop.
- Offline mode. Willow can dictate without a connection, using your own device; according to its help center, it comes with Pro. Wispr Flow needs the internet to transcribe.
- Scribe. Instead of dictating word for word, you say the idea ("tell Sarah I can't make Tuesday and ask if Wednesday works") and Scribe writes the message in your style. It can also reply based on what's on your screen and rewrite text you select. Free 20 times a week; unlimited with Pro. The closest thing in Wispr Flow is Command Mode, which is Pro only.
- Your dictations aren't kept, with no settings to change. Its private mode is on by default: Willow doesn't keep your audio or the text of your dictations, and your history stays on your device. On Wispr Flow, using your data to improve its models is on by default on Free and Pro, and you turn it off yourself.
- If you already pay for another dictation app. With its Switch program, send the receipt for your yearly plan and Willow gives you Pro free until the time you already paid for runs out.

Privacy
- Wispr Flow: turns your voice into text in the cloud and stores data in the United States. On the Free and Pro plans, it uses your dictations and meetings to improve its models unless you turn that off. You can choose not to keep your dictation history on their servers; meeting notes are stored in their cloud.
- Willow: turns your voice into text in the cloud. Its private mode is on by default: Willow doesn't keep your audio or the text of your dictations, and its providers don't keep them or train models on them either. If you want to help improve Willow, you can let it keep your text, anonymized and without audio. Your history stays only on your device: if you switch computers, it doesn't come with you. Reading the text around your cursor (Context Awareness) is optional, and that text isn't kept.
Both are SOC 2 Type II certified and offer HIPAA contracts (BAA); Wispr Flow also has ISO 27001. Local vs cloud dictation: what changes.
