How to transcribe a Google Meet call (free, and without a bot)

In short

Google Meet has transcripts and "Take notes for me" with Gemini, but only on some Google Workspace editions (Business Standard and up, some Education editions and Workspace Individual), and it depends on the plan of whoever organizes the meeting; the list doesn't include free personal Gmail accounts. If you don't have them, an app that listens from your computer works just as well: with Loro it's free, there's no bot, and when you hang up you get what was said and a note with the next steps.

Besides the transcript, Gemini can write a document with the meeting notes.

How to transcribe any Meet with Loro

Loro listens to the call from your computer, so it doesn't depend on anyone's Google plan.

  1. Download Loro for free for Windows or Mac.
  2. If you connect Google Calendar, Loro reminds you a minute before the meeting. If not, when you join the Meet in your browser it asks "Take notes on this call?".
  3. Click Take notes. What's being said shows up live, with who said what.
  4. When you hang up, Loro writes the note: the topics and the next steps with each person's name.

It works with Meet in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc and Safari, and the note comes out in the meeting's language (English or Spanish). The audio is never stored.

Tell the others

Meet shows an icon while it transcribes. Loro doesn't add a bot, so nobody sees anything new in the call: tell people yourself when you start that you're taking notes. It's the right thing to do and, in many places, what the law asks.
