AI meeting notes without a bot: how they work and how to start for free

In short
An AI meeting notes app listens to your call, turns it into text and, when you hang up, gives you a summary with the topics and each person's next steps. "Without a bot" means nobody new joins the meeting: the app uses your computer's audio. With Loro it's free, it works with Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp and other call apps, and the note comes out in the language you spoke (English or Spanish).
What a meeting notes app does
Four things you used to do by hand:
- It listens to the meeting while you talk, so you don't have to type.
- It writes the note when you hang up: the topics, what was decided and the next steps, with each person's name.
- It answers questions about the meeting: "what's still pending?", "what was the budget?".
- It helps with what's next: a follow-up email, a summary for WhatsApp, or your to-do list.
With a bot or without a bot: the difference
There are two ways to take notes of a video call:
- With a bot. An "assistant" joins the meeting as one more participant. Everyone sees it in the list, sometimes someone has to let it in, and it only works in the apps it knows (usually Zoom, Meet and Teams).
- Without a bot. An app on your computer listens to your microphone and the call's sound. Nobody new joins the meeting, the call looks the same as always, and it works with any call app, even WhatsApp.
Loro works without a bot. It's still good practice to tell people you're taking notes: it's the right thing to do and, in many places, what the law asks. What is a meeting bot.
How Loro takes notes, step by step
1. It lets you know
If you connect Google Calendar, Loro reminds you a minute before each meeting. If the call wasn't scheduled, it still asks "Take notes on this call?". It never records on its own: it takes notes with one click from you.
2. It listens
During the call, Loro docks to the side of your screen and listens. Jot down what matters to you, or write nothing: Loro still catches everything. What's being said shows up live.
3. It writes the note
When you hang up, Loro writes the note on its own, no extra click: the meeting's topics and the next steps with each person's name. What you wrote stays in black and Loro's part in gray, and you can edit all of it. For example, after a call with a client:
Budget. Approved: 8,000 dollars. Enough if they start next week.
Next steps. Daniela: send the signed contract on Wednesday. You: send the schedule on Thursday.
Below the note, Loro shows your next steps; one click adds them to your To-do, with a date if someone said when.
4. It answers
Ask anything: what's still pending, a follow-up email, or a summary for WhatsApp. Loro answers with what was said and shows you which meeting it came from.
You can also share the note with a link, see notes by person and by company, and connect your AI (Claude or ChatGPT) to ask it about your meetings. Every button, in the help center: how Loro takes your meeting notes.
Which call apps it works with
Because it listens to your computer's audio, Loro works with any call app. It also detects on its own when you start a call in Google Meet (in the browser), Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Slack, Webex, Discord or Skype, and on a Mac also in FaceTime. Step by step for each one: Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
It runs on Windows 10 and 11, and on Macs with macOS 14.2 or later.
What happens to your audio and your notes
- The audio is never stored.
- Online, what's said is turned into text in the cloud, sentence by sentence, and the recording is deleted right away.
- Offline, your meetings are transcribed on your computer. To have them summarized there too, download Loro's AI in Settings › Call notes (about 2.6 GB, once).
- Your notes are saved on your computer and in your Loro account, so your AI can read them from anywhere. If you'd rather nothing leaves your computer, choose that in Settings.
What it costs
- Free: unlimited meeting notes. You see the notes from the last 30 days.
- Pro: your whole notes history and unlimited dictation. USD 9.99 a month or USD 80 a year.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI meeting note?
It's a summary an app writes for you from what was said in the meeting: the topics, the decisions and each person's next steps. You can edit it, share it and ask it questions.
Are there free meeting notes apps?
Yes. With Loro, meeting notes are unlimited on the free plan; you see the ones from the last 30 days. Pro keeps your whole history.
Does Loro work with Google Meet?
Yes, in the browser. Also with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp and other call apps, because it listens to your computer's audio.
Is my meeting audio recorded?
No. Loro turns what's said into text and deletes the recording right away. The audio is never stored.
What language are the notes in?
The language you spoke: if the meeting was in English, the note is in English; if it was in Spanish, in Spanish.
Will the others know I'm taking notes?
Loro doesn't add a bot, so nobody new shows up in the call. That's why it's best to tell them yourself when you start.
