Superwhisper vs Monologue: which one to pick for dictating on your computer

In short
Superwhisper and Monologue both dictate in any app on Mac and iPhone, in more than 100 languages; both can dictate offline on a Mac, and both record meetings without a bot. Pick Superwhisper if you also use Windows or Android, if you want a free plan that never expires, or if you want to pay less: Pro is USD 8.49 a month, USD 84.99 a year or USD 249.99 once. Pick Monologue if you use an iPad or Apple Watch, if you want your voice notes on all your devices, or if you already pay for Every, which includes it; otherwise Pro is USD 15 a month or USD 144 a year. If you also work in Spanish and want an app for Windows and Mac, there's a short note on Loro at the end.
What they have in common
Both are voice dictation apps. On a Mac, hold a shortcut, talk, and the text shows up in whatever app you have open; on iPhone, you dictate with their keyboard. Both dictate in more than 100 languages and have a dictionary and modes with your own instructions, so an email doesn't sound like a chat.
On a Mac, both can turn your voice into text offline with a local model, and both record meetings without a bot: they tell speakers apart and write a summary. Both let an AI assistant look through your meetings or notes.

Where Superwhisper wins
- Windows and Android. It also runs on Windows 10 and 11, ARM included, and on Android. Monologue has no Windows or Android version and hasn't announced a date.
- More works offline. Its local models run on Mac, Windows and iPhone, and on a Mac a whole meeting, with speaker labels and a summary, can happen offline. In Monologue, offline you can only dictate on a Mac, without the AI cleanup.
- A free plan that never expires, with unlimited dictation on local models (without the AI modes). Monologue only has a trial.
- Price. Pro is USD 84.99 a year, versus USD 144 for Monologue, or USD 249.99 once. Month to month, it's USD 8.49 versus USD 15.
- Control and files. You pick the models, write modes with your own instructions, use your own API keys and, with Pro, transcribe audio and video files. Monologue has no way to upload files for transcription.
- Certifications. Superwhisper is SOC 2 Type II certified and offers HIPAA contracts (BAA). Monologue doesn't list certifications like these on its website.
Where Monologue wins
- iPad and Apple Watch, with your dictionary and modes synced. Superwhisper is built for iPhone (it runs on iPad, but without full support yet) and isn't on Apple Watch.
- Notes on all your devices. Record a voice note from your iPhone, iPad or watch, or a meeting on your Mac, and Monologue transcribes it, summarizes it and puts it on all your devices and its web app. Superwhisper Meetings only runs on a Mac, and meetings are saved there.
- An API for your notes. Besides MCP and a command-line tool, Monologue has a public API so your own apps can read your notes.
- If you already pay for Every. Monologue grew up inside Every, and Pro is included in the Every subscription.

Privacy
- Superwhisper: with a local model, your voice and text never leave your device, and on a Mac a whole meeting can stay on your computer. With a cloud model, your voice is processed without being stored or used to train models. Out of the box it uses the cloud; you pick the local model yourself. Your recordings stay on your device and are kept unless you set a time limit.
- Monologue: it doesn't keep your dictations on its servers, deletes the audio as soon as it's processed and doesn't train models on them. Your voice notes and meeting notes are stored in your account, so you can see them on all your devices. On a Mac you can dictate with the local model; on iPhone and iPad, dictation always goes through its servers.
