Wispr Flow vs Windows voice typing: which one to use for dictating on your PC

In short
Both type with your voice in any Windows app, and both need the internet. Windows voice typing (Windows + H) is free and already installed, but it types almost word for word: fine for short messages. Wispr Flow removes filler words, adds punctuation and understands when you change your mind; it's free up to 2,000 words a week, and Pro is USD 15 a month or USD 144 a year. Pick Windows voice typing if you dictate a little and don't want to pay. Pick Wispr Flow if you dictate every day, or also on a Mac or your phone. If you want to dictate offline, in English or Spanish, look at Loro.
What they have in common
Both do the same basic thing: put your cursor where you want to write (an email, a document, a chat), turn on dictation and talk. The text appears where your cursor is, in any app.
Both dictate in Spanish as well as English, and both need the internet: Windows uses Microsoft's online speech recognition, and Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud.

Where Wispr Flow wins
- Text that's ready to send. It removes filler words, fixes grammar and adds punctuation as you talk. If you change your mind mid-sentence ("let's meet at 2... actually 3"), it types only what you meant. On Windows, removing filler words and fixing grammar is only done by fluid dictation, in English, on Copilot+ PCs.
- It learns your words. It has a personal dictionary, learns the names you correct, and lets you save voice shortcuts for text you repeat, like your signature or a scheduling link.
- On all your computers and your phone. It runs on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, with the same dictionary.
- More languages. 100+, and it detects which one you're speaking.
- Meeting notes. It takes notes of your meetings without adding a bot, on Mac and Windows. The free plan has a weekly meeting limit.
- For companies. It has SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and it signs a HIPAA business associate agreement (BAA) on any plan.
Where Windows voice typing wins
- It's free and already installed. Nothing to install: press Windows + H on Windows 10 or 11.
- Help and commands in Spanish too. Microsoft's help comes in Spanish, and on Windows 11 so do the voice commands ("Borra eso", "Selecciona eso", "Presiona entrar", "Detén la escucha"). Wispr Flow dictates in Spanish, but its website and help are in English only.
- On a Copilot+ PC, in English, fluid dictation removes filler words and fixes grammar with models that run on your computer, at no extra cost.
- And if you need more, Windows 11 has voice access: you open and switch apps, browse the web and write emails using only your voice, offline once you download the language.

Privacy
- Windows voice typing: your voice is sent to Microsoft to be turned into text. Microsoft says it doesn't store, sample or listen to your voice recordings without your permission. Contributing voice clips to improve the service is optional; you change it in the voice typing settings (Windows + H, then the gear).
- Wispr Flow: transcription always happens in the cloud. You choose whether your dictations are kept in its cloud ("Dictation cloud storage"). On the free and Pro plans, Wispr uses your audio, transcripts and edits to train its models unless you turn off "Improve the model for everyone" in Settings › Data and Privacy; on Growth and Enterprise plans it's off and locked.
- If your voice must not leave your computer, neither one works: both need the internet to dictate. Local vs cloud dictation: what changes.

And if you want one that works in Spanish too: Loro
Loro is a dictation app for Windows and Mac, in English and Spanish: the dictation, the app and the website. On a computer it does the basics of Wispr Flow: hold Ctrl + Win (fn on a Mac), talk, and the text appears in any app, without filler words and with punctuation; online, it understands when you correct yourself. Unlike both, it also works offline, because it ships its own voice model. And it takes notes of your meetings without a bot.
- Price: free up to 2,000 dictation words a week. Pro is USD 9.99 a month or USD 80 a year (USD 240 over three years).
- Missing: a phone app, languages other than English and Spanish, and certifications like SOC 2 or HIPAA.
