Wispr Flow vs Otter: differences, pricing and which one to pick

In short
They overlap on meeting notes, but they don't do the same job. Wispr Flow is a dictation app first: it types what you say in any app on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, and it also takes notes of your meetings without a bot, on Mac and Windows. Pro is USD 15 a month or USD 144 a year. Otter is for meetings: its assistant joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on its own, even when you can't go, keeps the audio and transcribes recordings, but it doesn't dictate into other apps. Pro is USD 16.99 a month, or USD 8.33 a month billed yearly. Pick Wispr Flow if you write a lot and want notes without a bot. Pick Otter if you need notes from meetings you can't attend, to listen to the audio again or to transcribe files. If you also work in Spanish, we cover Loro at the end.
What they have in common
Both take meeting notes: they transcribe live, label who's speaking by name and give you a summary with next steps at the end. Also:
- They record without a bot from their Mac and Windows apps: Wispr Flow always; Otter, with its desktop app.
- They detect when a call starts and connect to your Google or Outlook calendar.
- If the internet drops, they keep recording and transcribe once you're back online.
- They answer questions about your meetings and, from the free plan, connect to Claude or ChatGPT through MCP.
- They transcribe Spanish, but Otter's app and Wispr Flow's website and help are in English only.

Where Wispr Flow wins
- It dictates in any app. Emails, messages, documents or prompts for ChatGPT: hold fn (Ctrl + Win on Windows), talk, and the text appears without filler words and with punctuation. Otter doesn't type with your voice in other apps.
- No bot, ever. It works with any meeting app and with in-person conversations. Otter's assistant shows up in the call as "Notetaker (Otter.ai)", with your name, and it can only join if the meeting allows guests.
- Longer meetings on the free plan. Otter's free plan gives you 300 minutes a month and only shows the first 30 minutes of each conversation. Wispr Flow's free plan caps meetings per week (by default, 50 of 5 minutes or more) and records up to 2 hours each.
- It detects the language. It transcribes 21 languages without you picking anything first, and it translates the transcript. In Otter you pick one of its 6 languages before the meeting, and it can't be changed afterwards.
- Cheaper month to month: USD 15, versus USD 16.99 for Otter Pro.
- If you're coming from Otter, export your transcripts as TXT, with speaker names and timestamps, and upload them to Wispr Flow (no audio).
Where Otter wins
- It goes even when you don't. Connect your calendar and Otter Notetaker joins your Zoom, Meet and Teams meetings on its own, including the ones you can't attend; depending on the plan, several at once.
- With a bot or without, your choice. Its desktop app records without a bot and detects calls in Zoom, Meet, Teams, Slack and WhatsApp.
- You can listen again. Otter keeps the recording and highlights each word as it plays. Wispr Flow deletes the audio after 7 days and keeps the text.
- It transcribes files. Upload an audio or video file (MP3, M4A, MP4 and more, up to 5 GB): 3 in total on the free plan and 10 a month on Pro. Wispr Flow only transcribes what's said live.
- Cheaper if you pay yearly: about USD 100 a year, versus USD 144 for Wispr Flow Pro.
- In-person meetings on your phone. Its iPhone and Android apps record and transcribe; Wispr Notetaker isn't on phones yet.
- Sales integrations: Zapier, Salesforce and HubSpot from Pro.

Privacy
- Wispr Flow: processes the audio from your microphone and computer in the cloud. Transcripts and summaries are stored in its cloud, with no option to opt out of that storage, and uploaded audio is deleted after 7 days. On the Free and Pro plans, using your dictations and meetings to improve its models is on by default; you turn it off in Settings › Data and Privacy. Notetaker launched after its SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits and isn't covered by them.
- Otter: keeps the recording and the transcript, encrypted, and only starts recording when someone in the meeting presses record or invites the assistant. It trains its own models on de-identified data. Whatever you delete stays in the trash for 30 days.
- Both say their AI providers don't train on your data, and both ask you to tell people. Recording without a bot doesn't notify anyone: Wispr Flow can post a notice in the meeting chat, and Otter's desktop app can post one in the Teams chat.

And if you work in Spanish too: Loro
Otter's app and Wispr Flow's website are in English only. Loro is a meeting notes and voice dictation app for Windows and Mac, in English and Spanish: the app, the website and the notes. It takes notes without a bot in Meet, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp and other call apps, and when you hang up you get each person's next steps, in the language you spoke. It also dictates in any app with Ctrl + Win (fn on a Mac). Offline, it transcribes on your computer.
- Free: unlimited meeting notes (you see the last 30 days) and 2,000 dictation words a week.
- Pro: USD 9.99 a month or USD 80 a year.
- Missing: a phone app, and languages other than English and Spanish. It doesn't keep the audio, the app doesn't transcribe files (that's what our free tool is for), and it can't take notes of meetings you don't join.

Frequently asked questions
Is Wispr Flow an alternative to Otter?
For meeting notes without a bot, yes: Wispr Notetaker listens from your Mac or Windows PC and gives you the transcript, the summary and a chat to ask questions. It isn't if you need an assistant to go to meetings without you, to listen to the audio again or to transcribe files.
Can Otter dictate?
No. Otter transcribes meetings, recordings and files, but it doesn't type with your voice in other apps. For that you need a dictation app, like Wispr Flow or Loro.
Which is cheaper, Wispr Flow or Otter?
Billed yearly, Otter: about USD 100 a year, versus USD 144 for Wispr Flow. Month to month, Wispr Flow: USD 15 versus USD 16.99. Wispr Flow Pro includes unlimited dictation, and Otter Pro includes 1,200 recording minutes a month.
Can I move my Otter notes to Wispr Flow?
Yes. In Otter, export your conversations as TXT, with speaker names and timestamps, and download the ZIP it emails you. In Wispr Flow, go to Settings › Notetaker, find the import option and upload the ZIP. Your transcripts and summaries come over, without the audio.
Do Wispr Flow and Otter work in Spanish?
Both transcribe Spanish. Otter transcribes one language per meeting, which you pick before you start; Wispr Flow detects the language on its own. Otter's app and Wispr Flow's website and help are in English. Loro comes in English and Spanish: the app, the website and the notes.
