Granola vs Fireflies: differences, pricing and which one to pick

In short
Pick Granola if you don't want bots in your calls, if your meetings mix Spanish and English, or if you want AI summaries of all your meetings without paying. Its paid plan, Business, is USD 14 per person a month. Pick Fireflies if you want its assistant to join your calendar meetings on its own, to keep the recording, to transcribe files or to connect your CRM. Pro is USD 18 a month, or USD 10 a month billed yearly. Both run on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and both include free dictation (Granola's is in beta and Mac only). If you want an app built in Spanish and English, we cover Loro at the end.
What they have in common
Both listen to your meetings, turn them into text and give you a summary with the topics and action items. Also:
- They answer questions about your meetings: Granola with its chat, Fireflies with AskFred.
- They run on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, and have a free plan.
- They can take notes without a bot, using your computer's sound: Granola always does; Fireflies does with its desktop app or, in Google Meet, with its Chrome extension.
- They transcribe Spanish and include dictation for typing with your voice in other apps, free on every plan.
- They hold SOC 2 Type II certification.

Where Granola wins
- No bot, ever. Granola always listens from your computer or your phone. In Fireflies, the assistant joins the call unless you use its desktop app or, in Google Meet, its Chrome extension.
- Meetings in two languages, on every plan. With its multi-language mode, Granola keeps up when people switch from Spanish to English, for free too. In Fireflies, that mode is in beta and Business only, at USD 19 a month billed yearly.
- Summaries of all your meetings, for free. Granola doesn't cap how many meetings it summarizes; it only shows you the ones from the last 30 days. Fireflies' free plan gives you limited AI summaries.
- Your notes guide the summary. You jot down what matters to you and Granola fills it in with what was said: your part stays in black and the AI's in gray.
- It costs less month to month. Business is USD 14 a month; Fireflies Pro is USD 18 if you pay monthly.
Where Fireflies wins
- Notes happen on their own. With your calendar connected, the assistant joins your Zoom, Meet, Teams and other meetings on its own. In Granola you have to open the meeting's note or click its notification.
- It keeps the recording. With the assistant, it keeps the audio, and on paid plans the video too. Granola deletes the audio.
- It transcribes files. Upload an audio or video file and it turns it into text, on the free plan too. Granola only transcribes live.
- More languages. 100+, versus Granola's 31.
- Dictation in more places. Fireflies Talk types with your voice in any app on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, free and unlimited. Granola's is in beta and Mac only.
- Built for sales. It analyzes each call and connects to CRMs like HubSpot and Salesforce from Pro. Granola connects to Salesforce on Enterprise only.
- It costs less if you pay yearly. Pro comes to USD 120 a year. Granola Business can only be paid monthly: USD 168 a year.

Privacy
- Granola deletes the audio as soon as it's transcribed. It stores your notes and transcripts encrypted, on servers in the United States, until you delete them. On Basic and Business it may use your anonymized data to improve its own models; you can turn that off in the app's settings. It doesn't let other AI companies train on your data. HIPAA is Enterprise only.
- Fireflies keeps the audio, and the video on paid plans, when you use the assistant. With its desktop app, without a bot, it keeps only the transcript and the summary. It says it doesn't train AI models on your meetings and that its vendors don't keep your data. It holds ISO 42001 certification; Enterprise adds HIPAA and lets you choose how long your data is kept.
- Telling people. Unless you change it, Fireflies' desktop app plays a voice message in the call when it starts taking notes without a bot. Granola has a chat message and a badge on your camera that you can turn on. With both, asking for permission is on you.

And if you work in Spanish too: Loro
Granola's app is in English only, and Fireflies says English is its main language. Loro is a meeting notes and voice dictation app for Windows and Mac, built in Spanish and English: the app, the website and the notes. It takes notes without a bot in Meet, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp and other call apps, and when you hang up you get the topics and each person's next steps, in the language you spoke. It also dictates in any app: hold Ctrl + Win (fn on a Mac) and talk. Offline, it transcribes on your computer.
- Free: unlimited meeting notes (you see the last 30 days) and 2,000 dictation words a week.
- Pro: USD 9.99 a month or USD 80 a year.
- Missing: a phone app, and languages other than English and Spanish. It doesn't keep the audio, the app doesn't transcribe files (that's what our free tool is for) and it can't take notes of meetings you don't join.
