# How to install Loro on a Mac and give it permissions

Download the file for your Mac ([Apple chip](https://heyloro.app/descargar/mac) or [Intel](https://heyloro.app/descargar/mac-intel)), open it and drag Loro to **Applications**. When you open it, you sign in with your Google account, and setup asks for two Mac permissions: **Microphone** and **Accessibility**. Without them, Loro can't hear you or type for you. You need macOS 14.2 or later.

## Apple chip or Intel?

Open the Apple menu › **About This Mac**. If it says "Chip" (M1, M2, M3, M4…), your Mac has an Apple chip. If it says "Processor" and names Intel, it's an Intel Mac.

## Step by step

1. Open the Loro file you downloaded and drag Loro to the **Applications** folder.
2. Open Loro from **Applications**. If your Mac asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet, choose **Open**: Loro is signed and checked by Apple.
3. Click **Continue with Google** and sign in in your browser.
4. In step 2 of setup, "Two Mac permissions", click **Allow** on each one:
   - **Microphone**, so Loro can hear you when you dictate.
   - **Accessibility**, so it can type what you dictate in any app and know when you hold fn. Your Mac opens its settings: turn on Loro and come back to setup.
5. Keep going. Later on, setup offers two more permissions, for when you want to use them:
   - **Screen Recording**, to write with your screen using Control + Option (with Pro).
   - **Mac audio**, to hear the others on your calls. Only the audio, never the screen.

To dictate, hold **fn**, talk and let go.

## If you said no to a permission

Your Mac only asks once. If you said no, Loro shows you **Open System Settings**. You can also go there yourself: in **System Settings › Privacy & Security**, turn on Loro under:

- **Microphone**
- **Accessibility**
- **Screen & System Audio Recording** (on macOS 14, **Screen Recording**), for your calls and for writing with your screen.

## Where Loro lives

Loro stays at the top, in the menu bar. From there you open your dictations, your notes and settings. To have it open when you start your Mac: **Settings › Preferences › Open at login**.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Mac do I need?

One with macOS 14.2 (Sonoma) or later, with an Apple chip or Intel.

### Why does Loro need Accessibility?

To type the text where your cursor is, in any app, and to know when you hold fn.

### How does it update?

On its own: when there's a new version, Loro asks you to update and it takes less than a minute. Your notes, dictations and settings stay as they are.
